The Volumetric Medical Training project develops virtual reality masterclasses for surgical healthcare professionals, with the goal of creating a new form of immersive simulation training tailored to interprofessional work environments. In this immersive learning environment, students and educators can engage with digital life-size, photorealistic 3D clinical settings, such as operating rooms, shock rooms, and patient rooms, presented as virtual reality scenarios. These simulations allow users to experience medical workflows and procedures from any individual perspective. The project will be tested and evaluated in real-world conditions as a living lab concept called SkillsLab XR, providing a practical framework for integrating these training tools into medical education. By enabling hospitals to produce their own volumetric content, we would like to empower them to build digital classrooms to communicate surgical skills and workflows in the OR.
